Governor Daugaard names Anderson to vacant District 16 House seat

Governor Dennis Daugaard announced Monday that he will appoint David Anderson to the vacant seat in the State House of Representatives, representing District 16.

Anderson will succeed Rep. Patty Miller, who resigned earlier this year.

"Dave is a farmer, businessman, and respected leader in the Canton community and the surrounding area," said Governor Daugaard. "I was impressed by Dave's business acumen, his common sense approach, and his strong connection to his community."

Anderson is the owner of Canton Insurance Agency and the president of the Farm Mutual Insurance Company of Lincoln County.

He also farms near Hudson, and is the fifth generation in his family to live on the farm.

Anderson's appointment is effective immediately.

He will serve the remainder of Rep. Miller's term, which expires after the 2014 general election.

District 16 includes all of Union County, and southern and eastern portions of Lincoln County, including the cities of Worthing, Canton, Beresford, and Hudson.
