Neb. lawmakers override veto on retirement bill

LINCOLN, Neb. (KTIV) -

Nebraska lawmakers have overridden Governor Dave Heineman's veto of a public-school retirement bill.

Senators voted 32-to-one on Tuesday to press the measure into law.

Heineman criticized part of the bill that doubled the state's retirement contribution from one percent to two.

He also said the measure's projection of eight-percent annual returns was unrealistic.

The bill's sponsor says the state would end up paying more in the future if lawmakers failed to take action now.
