A dramatic escape for a South Sioux City, Nebraska home is destroyed after fire breaks out this afternoon.

Now, fire investigators have ruled it accidental after finding out what caused it.

Fire officials a grill that was used last night, re-kindled and started the deck on fire that spread to the home.

It happened around noon at 1576 Fair Meadow Drive.

Fire officials say a woman inside the home got out and called 911.

When crews arrived, the house was engulfed.

Authorities say a man was in the basement.

He was hurt after he broke out a window trying to escape.

He was taken to a Sioux City hospital.

Because the flames were so intense volunteer firefighters from Homer, Ponca, and South Sioux City were also called in.

""It was a fast moving fire, a hard fire to control. It had progressed quite a bit before we got here so consequently, it was a tough fire to put out," Jim Gustin, Dakota City Firefighter said.

A firefighter was also injured on scene.

Officials say he was treated by paramedics for heat exhaustion.

Both the man and the firefighter were released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
