Man accused of killing mother, kidnapping woman, gets trial moved

The murder and kidnapping trial of Kirk Levin will be moved out of Siouxland.  The 21-year-old Early, Iowa man is accused of killing his mother, 45-year-old Marilyn Schmitt on January 3.

She was stabbed to death inside her home near Early. Investigators discovered her body while looking into a kidnapping case.

The kidnapping victim, Jessica Vega, told authorities that Kirk Levin came to her Storm Lake home and asked for a ride. She said he then tied her up and put her into a car.

Vega escaped after the car went into a ditch near Schmitt's home.

Levin's attorney requested the trial be moved out of Sac County because of extensive media coverage.

A judge agreed and moved it to Fort Dodge.

It'll start June third.
