It's not flu season but more than 10-percent of the students at one Sioux City school are out sick.
47 students and three staff members from Bryant Elementary have come down with an unknown gastrointestinal illness.
They all reported vomiting and diarrhea.
Anytime more than 10 percent of the student body is out sick, at the same time, the Sioux City School District must notify Siouxland District Health.
Students and parents received a letter Thursday, notifying them of the problem.
"Gastro-illnesses and intestinal illnesses are so commonly spread and easily spread, it's just reminding them to frequent hand washing, disinfecting anything their children might have touched if they're sick, washing bed linens," said Director of Communications for Sioux City School District Alison Benson.
School officials advise parents to keep their child home if they show any symptoms.
They may send their child back to school 24 hours after symptoms subside.
