Community holds 5K run to help cancer patient pay the bills
More than 200 runners came out for this benefit run along the Missouri River.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
You might take an early morning jog because it's good for your health But Saturday, a couple hundred Siouxlanders ran near the Missouri River to support somebody else.
Leslie Walker is battling lung cancer, and her friends wanted to help her fight.
They set up a 5 kilometer course, with the $25 entry fee going to help Walker pay her medical bills. She was impressed by how many people came out to help.
"The community support has been wonderful," said Walker. "I have somebody here from Minnesota, from Omaha, Council Bluffs, all the surrounding communities. It's really overwhelming and really amazing."
Organizers say more than 200 runners participated, plus a few four-legged friends.
