Arnolds Park opens for the season

Arnolds Park opened on Saturday. Arnolds Park opened on Saturday.

A classic amusement park opened its doors to the public for this first time this year. Arnolds Park, known for its rides along the waterfront, is celebrating its 86th year of operation.

In addition to classic summer treats, like lemonade and caramel corn, the park will have a few new things on its menu this year, like turkey burgers.

Meanwhile, some old carnival games, like the duck pond and new challenges like the wacky wire are sure to bring the whole family some fun.

"We've got all the fun games when you come to an amusement park. Even though we're just a small amusement park, there's still a lot of fun to be had in the games area," said Di Lorenzen, marketing and communications manager for Arnolds Park Amusement Park.

The Legend Roller Coaster got a $250,000 facelift this year.

The lingering winter weather put crews a little behind, but everything was ready to go today when they opened their doors for the first time.

"We were itching to get out here and get some things done," said Di Lorenzen, director of communications and marketing at Arnolds Park Amusement Park. "But rain or shine, we had the crews out here working on the roller coaster to get that done, and they really worked in some adverse conditions."

After this weekend's kickoff, Arnolds Park will be closed for the week, but will be open every day, beginning Memorial Day weekend.
