Parking changes in store for downtown Norfolk

NORFOLK, NE (US92)  -  A new downtown parking policy, making way for a new pharmacy and discussions of capital improvement are all on the agenda for the Norfolk, Nebraska City council Tuesday.

The council is hoping to get a lot accomplished when they convene this evening.

When folks travel through Norfolk, it's obvious when you pull up to the intersection of Norfolk Avenue and highway 81 that something big is going on.

CVS is planning to develop a new pharmacy at the southwest corner of that intersection and homes sitting on the property are in the process of being torn down to clear the way.

Tuesday, the city council will vote on a resolution that would approve the final plat for the area and vote on an ordinance that would vacate an alley way near the property.

Also Tuesday, the Norfolk City Council will vote on a resolution to approve the city's capital improvement program for the next nine years and vote on a proposed downtown vehicle parking reorganization policy.

The policy was first presented to the city council earlier this month.

Monday night's action will authorize the city staff to move forward with formulating ordinances to implement the plan.

The Norfolk City Council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
