Students at Unity Elementary unveil their Corn Palace inspired artwork

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Siouxland has a rich and deep history, one that has a lot to do with corn.

Combine the corn and history, and you get what the students at Unity Elementary School unveiled Tuesday.

Corn palace inspired corn panels documenting the history of Sioux City and Siouxland.

The children's yearlong art projects featured River boats, railroads, livestock and no surprise the corn palace itself.

Art teacher Mari Ellsworth says she's amazed at the children's accomplishment.

"Someday when the students come back here they will have a great sense of pride that their artwork is still here and still displayed," said Mari Ellsworth.

Ellsworth received a Sioux City Community Schools Foundation Grant for the project, and is already thinking of big project for next years class.
