Mapleton, IA man shares connection with Oklahoma tornado victims

Posted:

The images from Oklahoma hit close to home for residents in Mapleton, Iowa.

Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto principal Mahlon Carothers came home two years ago to find his home ravaged by an E-F-3 tornado. He's since rebuilt.

But, he knows people in Moore, Oklahoma, including one of his former students, and a former classmate.

Both are safe, but his classmate wasn't reunited with her high school age daughter until last night. "There's ties back... it's a small world. My heart goes out to them because they're just starting the process," say Mahlon Carothers.

Carothers says he's keeping tabs on his Oklahoma friends through Facebook.
