SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

This Memorial Day will hold special meaning for a South Sioux City, Nebraska family.

A statue, in the image of their son, will be unveiled in the new Siouxland Freedom Park.

Navy Master at Arms John Douangdara was a lead dog handler for Seal Team Six.

He was one of 30 Americans killed when a U.S. military helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan in August, 2011.

His dog also died in what's considered the single deadliest day for U.S. troops since the war in Afghanistan began.

An artist created a sculpture of Douangdara and his dog, which will be the focal point of the new dog park, inside Siouxland Freedom Park.

Located in South Sioux City, Nebraska, the statue will be unveiled during a ceremony on Memorial Day.

The event is 1pm on Monday, May 27. Several community leaders and elected officials are expected to attend.
