CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

For 7-year old Dylan Wygle, the overflowing Cedar River is just a bigger place to throw rocks in.

His family keeps a close eye on him, though.

"They told me to stay away from it," he said.

Other on-lookers in Cedar Falls said they had to get out and see the raging river firsthand.

"My and my fiance were sitting on our couch," said Ronnie Edmundson of Cedar Falls. "We were bored so we decided to come look at the water."

While the flooding is a sight to see for many, city officials remind people to be careful.

"Water that's not where it's supposed to be should be an evident sign for people to stay away," said Cedar Falls Fire Chief John Schilling.

City officials warn that floodwater can look calm and shallow, but it's deceiving.

"It's always the unknown, you know. We can see what's on top of the water, but we don't know what's underneath it," said Schilling.
