CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A World War II veteran finally received his service medals on Memorial Day.

Tripoli native Leslie Biermann served in the army and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal along with three others.

Congressman Bruce Braley presented Biermann's awards to him before the Cedar Rapids Kernels game in Cedar Rapids.

"Memorial Day is a time for us to pause and remember the sacrifices made by so many women and men in this country to keep us free, and Leslie is one of those people," said Braley.

After the war Biermann worked as a carpenter before taking over his family's farm.

"This is wonderful," Biermann said. "I sure love that stuff."
