Tuesday morning, the county supervisors approved a plan that would allow smaller towns, that can't afford round-the-clock police presence, to hire sheriff's deputies for added enforcement.  Lawton, Bronson, Pierson, Hornick, and Danbury have signed up to hire deputies for $35 an hour as needed.

Even though the sheriff's department already patrols those towns, the agreement now allows deputies to enforce city ordinances.  Sheriff Dave Drew says it's a win-win because it makes the deputies more accessible and visible.

"They may be there at two or three in the morning and our times vary and that's good.  The communities like it, the mayors like it that they know someone is in there frequently," says Woodbury County Sheriff Dave Drew.

Drew says other towns are looking into the agreement to see if it would work for them.
