An orphaned polar bear takes the plunge into a new life in New York.

Kali was orphaned in Alaska when a hunter shot his mother. The hunter realized the bear he'd killed was nursing, so he took the cub and turned it over to wildlife officers. Kali landed at the Buffalo Zoo last month, making his public debut.

Zoo keepers gave him time to get used to his new surroundings, and his new companion, six-month-old Luna.
