Newly acquired Luke Murton scores a run during Sioux City's 11-2 win over Grand Prairie on Friday.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -
The Sioux City Explorers exploded for seven runs in the third inning and won their series opener against Grand Prairie, 11-2, on Friday night. The X's (12-15) sent eleven batters to the plate in the third for their biggest single-inning output of the season.
Leugim Barroso started the scoring with a double to right-center. Eliesar Mesa and Anthony Kaskadden scored to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Peter Barrows' infield hit scored Barroso to make it 3-0.
Newly acquired Luke Murton, just signed after five years in the Yankees organization, singled sharply into center to bring Wally Backman, Junior, home for a 4-0. Bryan Pounds followed that with a long double off the wall to bring in Barrows and Murton for a 6-0 advantage. Barraso then had his second run-scoring hit of the inning for Sioux City's seventh run.
Sioux City added solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings as seven different players had RBI's.
X's starting pitcher Jason Jarvis pitched six and two-third innings, allowing no runs on eight hits with one strikeout and three walks.
The three game series continues on Saturday night at 7:05 at Lewis & Clark Park.
