Iowa's governor has requested a presidential disaster declaration for 47 counties including several in Northwest Iowa after last month's flooding.

The counties in Siouxland include Buena Vista, Cherokee, Crawford, Ida, Lyon, Monona, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Sac, and Sioux.

Heavy rains, in late May, caused several rivers to go out of their banks including the Little Sioux in Cherokee.

Homes, businesses and farm fields were damaged.

The preliminary damage assement in the affected counties is $22 million.
