Neb. Governor thanks state employees for their charitable giving

Nebraska's governor was in Siouxland Friday thanking state employees for their charitable nature.

Governor Dave Heineman visited the Norfolk Veterans Home Friday morning to help promote the annual state employee charitable giving campaign.

State officials say the campaign allows state employees to donate a portion of their paychecks to the charity of their choice.

Last year, the campaign raised over a $500,000 a new record for Nebraska. The governor says more needs to be done to shed light on the giving spirit of Nebraska workers.

"You're the reason we're successful. You're the reason we're going to continue to be successful, and I just want you to know from the governor's office, I really appreciate what you're doing," Dave Heineman, Nebraska Governor said.

State officials say the state employee program has raised about three-point-five million dollars for Nebraska charities over the past decade.

This year's charitable giving campaign will run from August 5th through the 30th.
