JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

Emergency management officials in Johnson County say a house fire was the worst of the storm damage Monday afternoon.

Fire crews believe lightning hit an electric box, causing a house fire.

In other areas of the county, strong winds knocked down some power lines and trees, but the Emergency Management Coordinator says that damage is no worse than any other thunderstorm.

A confirmed tornado did touch down just south of Solon, but hit a rural area where there were no people.

Officials in the county say that things really could have been a lot worse. No injuries have been reported due to the storms, and all the people in the house fire escaped along with five of six pets.

"You start thinking about all the things that are in the house," said Therese Schebler, the homeowner. "My mom passed away recently and so I had a lot of her things from the funeral, her personal stuff, but I'm just hoping I'll be able to recover that."

The homeowners are still hoping that once they're allowed inside, they'll find their missing cat and be able to recover some of their belongings.

Highway 1 south of Solon was closed for a while due to a downed power line. Officials tell us it is now open again.
