The Iowa Utilities Board is taking public comment at a hearing at 5:30 p.m. at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City. It will be held in the Clare Room of the Stark Student Center.
MidAmerican Energy Company is asking the utilities board for an increase in its electric base rate. It says that initially, the increase would amount to an extra $2.73 per month for the average residential customer this year.
If approved, that increase would go into effect in August.
Long-term, MidAmerican is asking to increase rates by an average $8 per month by 2016. The Iowa Utilities Board will rule by next March 17th on that request.
