Some folks are still picking up the pieces after Sunday night's storm

On a hot, humid summer day, you'd probably prefer to be in the air conditioning, or at the pool, instead of outside cleaning up your yard.

But, some folks in Elk Point, SD had no choice following severe storms Sunday night.

The Teply family was outside cleaning up trees for hours. They enlisted friends and family to help them.

"We've had a couple of people volunteer, stopped and helped - free labor," said Dan Teply.

They needed the help. Strong winds from Sunday night storms brought down three trees in their yard alone. A few blocks away, Trisha Rasmussen was cleaning up, as well.

"Well, I had to take the day off of work. I had to get other people to fill in for me. And, then we had to get some farmer friends to come out and help us, so they brought their equipment into town," sad Rasmussen.

Rasmussen's clean-up job started at 6a.m., which was only hours after the winds brought down trees on her yard and her car.

Dan Teply fixes air conditioners for a living, but on Monday, he had to sweat it out in the heat to clean up Mother Nature's mess.

"Well, I got ten people waiting for me to fix their air conditioning. Instead, I had to cut the trees down, so it's an inconvenience for [the customers], not for me," said Teply.

Rasmussen and Teply both hope to finish the clean-up by the end of the day on Monday. And, then the city will come and pick up the trees they left on the curb.
