Renken has 19 shutouts this season.
Le Mars, IA (KTIV) -
No. 1 Le Mars wrapped up it's first undefeated campaign is school history, capping off a 30-win regular season with an 11-0 victory over Spencer Monday night.
They're the only undefeated team in the state.
24 of their wins have come behind pitcher Molly Renken.
The senior struck out eight Tigers while tossing her 19th complete game shutout of the season in Monday's win.
Renken ranks seventh in the state with 236 strikeouts this year. The lefty has given up just seven earned runs all season.
When the team began throwing in January, head coach Doug Heidebrink said by March he noticed Renken's speed was up about five miles per hour, going from the low to high 50's.
"I went to a few camps in the fall," Renken said. "And, I lifted weights a lot just to get it up there."
"It's really awesome catching her because she has a lot of speed and movement," junior catcher Madison Heidebrink said. "Movement, is what really gets the batters."
"We kind of laugh, you know, whatever Molly throws, it works kind of thing. So it's kind of nice," Head Coach Doug Heidebrink said. "You see something. She throws it hard and she makes it move a little bit, makes it dance and it works."
The Dogs open postseason action on Saturday and will play either Spencer or Humboldt in the 4A Region 1 semi-finals.
