There's new progress on the construction of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Fences are up around the Battery Building site, and the site is being prepped for construction of the $118-million project.
Sioux City Entertainment President & CEO Bill Warner says the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel is on track to open in the summer of 2014. For now, the focus is on preparing the site for a year's worth of work.
Pearl Street is now closed between 3rd and 4th Streets. It's a sign that surrounding buildings will soon come down to clear the way for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Bill Warner, Sioux City Entertainment President & CEO said, "We should be bringing buildings down in the near term, and then getting the site prepped."
Most of the buildings are on the east side of the Battery Building, which SCE will transform into the new casino-hotel complex. Bill Warner, Sioux City Entertainment President & CEO said, "I think you'll see a lot of the buildings in the parking, and in the footprint of where the casino will go, I think you'll see those buildings coming down."
But, at least one business inside the construction zone is still open, and ready to feed hungry customers. Mike Eliades, Milwaukee Wiener House Co-Owner said, "It's a little bit of an inconvenience, but it's the price of progress. The area is gonna be redeveloped, and I think it's gonna be a plus for all of the business people in the area." Eliades is already planning for the future. Work will begin in September on the new "Milwaukee Wiener House". It should open by March.
SCE hopes to open the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino by the summer of 2014. Gaming officials say it has to open by March 31st of 2015, or risk a nearly $53,000 fine, each day after that, until it is open.
