A Nebraska man starts his 2014 campaign for U.S. Senate

Former navy pilot and Norfolk, Nebraska native Shane Osborn is running for the Senate seat to be vacated by Mike Johanns.

Former state treasurer, Shane Osborn started his 2014 campaign for U.S. Senate Thursday morning in grand island.

He touched on his time serving in the military, and how that shaped his leadership skills and work ethic.

He then traveled to Norfolk, where the republican said one of the keys to fixing the nation's financial crisis is to stop issuing debt.

"We simply can't afford everything that government is doing and government has grown too large. When I was state treasurer, I looked very hard to find efficiencies and how we could shrink government. Over a 4 year period I shrunk my budget 12 percent and reduced staff by 28 percent," said candidate for U.S. Senate, Shane Osborn.

Osborn is seeking the seat of retiring U.S. Senator Mike Johanns.

So far Osborn and Omaha attorney, Bart Mcleay, are the only two candidates in the race.

Both are republicans.
