Raul Macias receives his Army medals from Congressman Steve King.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
It's often a job we take for granted, but one every American relies on and one of Sioux City's finest is taking home numerous honors for his time serving our military.
Friday, Iowa Congressman Steve King honored Sioux City Army veteran Raul Macias with nine medals. Macias was honored with the medals and his corrected military records from his years of service in the Army.
He came to the U.S. when he was 22 and joined the army in 1987. Macias spent time in Germany doing equipment inventory for the Apache and Cobra helicopters.
King said saying "thanks" simply isn't adequate.
"So to express our gratitude of a grateful nation to anyone who has lost their metals or not receive their metals, they have them coming, that's giving them justice and equity they deserve, it just comes to late, it comes later than it should, not necessarily too late." said Rep. Steve King, (R) Iowa.
Macias respectfully declined an interview. He retired in 1995. The ceremony was held at the American Legion of Iowa's 95th annual state convention.
