Woodbury County officials release the name of the accidental drowning victim

OTO, Iowa (KTIV) -

Woodbury County Sheriff's officials say 23-year-old Derik Veilguth of Galva, Iowa drowned in an accident on the Little Sioux River about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

They say Veilguth was with three friends when he fell into the swift-flowing river.

One of the friends jumped in to help but was unable to get him out of the river.

The Veilguth's body was recovered a little before 2 p.m., about 30 yards from where he'd fallen in.

Members of the Oto Fire and Rescue Agency and Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Woodbury County Conservation, the Siouxland Dive Team and IA State Patrol assisted in recovery efforts.
