Brian Dolan has been selected as the new head men's basketball coach at Wayne State College.
Wayne State College Director of Athletics Mike Powicki says Brian Dolan has been selected as the new head men's basketball coach at Wayne State College. He will become the school's 26th head coach in the 99-year history of the program. A formal press conference to introduce Dolan as the new Wildcat head coach will be held next week with details forthcoming.
"I am extremely pleased to announce Coach Dolan as our next head men's basketball coach," stated Powicki. "Brian is a talented individual who is also very familiar with the NSIC and what it takes to be successful in our league. His experience recruiting in the Midwest and coaching style will be a huge asset to the Wayne State College men's basketball program moving forward."
Dolan comes to Wayne State after spending the last seven seasons at Upper Iowa University. He helped transition a program that went from NCAA Division III to NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Conference. Dolan went 3-25 in his first season with the Peacocks and helped build the program to a 20-12 record this past season and a berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament, the schools' first-ever trip to NCAA Division II post-season play.
Prior to arriving at Upper Iowa, Dolan also served as an assistant coach at Texas-Pan American, College of Southern Idaho, Southern Utah and Southwest Missouri State while also serving as an administrative assistant at Oral Roberts (1998-99) under Bill Self. Dolan is a 1998 graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri.
"My family and I are very excited about becoming members of the Wayne community," commented Dolan. "We want to thank President Frye and Mr. Powicki for giving us this opportunity. It's an honor to lead a basketball program with so much tradition and I am looking forward to becoming a part of that tradition".
Dolan replaces Paul Combs, who resigned June 15 to become head coach at Carroll University in Wisconsin. Combs was 54-58 in his four seasons at Wayne State, including a 17-12 record in the 2012-13 season.
