SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

A former Sioux City North High School band director accused of stealing more than $50,000 worth of musical instruments from the school and selling them to local pawn shops is expected to plead guilty.

39-year-old Kevin Massey was charged with first-degree theft.

Through a plea agreement with prosecutors, that charge is being reduced to second-degree theft.

The agreement also states Massey will be put on probation and have to pay restitution to the school and several pawn shops.

Police say Massey stole the instruments and pawned them off to cover gambling debts.

He has since resigned from North High.

His court hearing is set for August eighth.
