OELWEIN (KWWL) -

An Oelwein man that was being sought by police for failing to comply with the sex offender registry has been located and taken into custody.

Robert J. Hamby, 29, of Oelwein, was charged with third-offense failure to comply with the sex offender registry.

Hamby was taken into custody on Friday. He is currently in the Fayette County Jail awaiting his first appearance.

Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher thanked the public for their assistance in a press release Friday.

A $5,000 cash warrant was issued for his arrest earlier this week.

Officials charged Hamby with the third offense after a weeklong investigation, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office on Monday.
