Siouxland folks talk about the world hunger problem

SPENCER, Iowa (KTIV) -

It's something we all have to do to survive but there are millions who sometimes go days, even weeks, without anything to eat.

Hunger remains one of the world's biggest problems and two companies, Elanco and Nutra Blend, teamed up to take this message on the road.

And, they stopped right here in Siouxland.

More than 200 people were invited to learn the facts about world hunger.

A company official says the audience was surprised to find out every day 25,000 people die from starvation and malnutrition.

"How close it is right here at home. We tend to think about the third world countries and we don't think about it being a problem right where we live, so it's really just for people to create that awareness and for them to really understand how big of a problem or issue this really is,"said Sales Representative for Elanco Animal Health, Niesha Muller.

The tour will be stopping at 130 sites nationwide.

Along with teaching people about world hunger, the program is also trying to debunk myths about the farming industry.
