Norfolk, NE officials are set to give a skate park a new look

Some Siouxland city officials are going to be giving a local youth hang out a face lift later this year.

Each year the Norfolk Parks Department evaluates the condition of every park in town.

At a recent Parks Department meeting, city officials identified Miracle Skate Park downtown as a top priority.

City officials say the years of use and weather are starting to show.

They say the ramps in the park have started to deteriorate and at the close of the summer season the Parks Department will begin repairing them.

City officials say the planned improvements are welcome news to area youth who have really responded well to having a skate park in the city.

"There are some kids where this is their thing. I mean, if it's a hundred degrees out...they'll be here," said Diane Becker, City of Norfolk.

City park officials already did about $7500 worth of work to the park this past winter and say they expect this fall's renovations to be fairly costly as well.

But, city officials say that the amount of use the park gets during the summer makes it money well spent.
