Le Mars, IA (KTIV) -
Due to using an illegal pitcher, No. 3 Le Mars' 8-5, 11-inning victory over No. 1 Bishop Heelan was over turned, putting the Crusaders into the 3A state tournament for the 15th time in school history. It would have been the Bulldogs first.
It's the second straight year Heelan is heading to state.
Following the game, Crusader Head Coach Andy Osborne confirmed that Le Mars had illegally substituted pitcher Parker Rolfes the final five innings.
Rolfes pitched nine innings in the Bulldogs 4-3, 11-inning victory over Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Monday.
In a memo date June 7, 2013 by the IAHSAA (http://tinyurl.com/lpo9st8), a player that pitches nine innings in any one game is required to have two full calendar days of rest. The earliest Rolfes would have been scheduled to return to the mound would be Thursday, July 25.
KTIV's attempts to reach Le Mars Coach Trent Eckstaine for comment have been unsuccessful.
