A baby animal surprise

FLORENCE, Italy - A family of Italian animal lovers got a big surprise last week.

One of their donkeys gave birth to a little one that had stripes like a zebra.

And since they have a zebra rescued from a circus, the Aglietti family realized they had a zonkey, a cross between a donkey and a zebra.

They've named the little one "Ippo" and are delighted it's healthy and doing fine.

Both the donkey and the zebra belong to the horse family, but their cross is rare.

The Agliettis grow ornamental flowers and take care of 170 stray and rescued animals including the zebra from the circus and four donkeys from Italy's forest service.

They said the zebra must have broken out of his enclosure and visited Ippo's mother and they didn't even notice it.
