Top-ranked Sgt. Bluff-Luton's bid for their first state softball championship ended with a 3-2 loss to fifth-ranked Bondurant-Farrar on Thursday in eight innings.
The Warriors (34-4) broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth before the game was sent to extra innings. Bondurant-Farrar won the game on a basehit from Erin Sawatzky.
"They made a lot of plays defensively," said SBL head coach Tom Prince. "Yes they had a couple errors but they made some plays too. We did for the most part but we had a couple that we didn't make and it hurt us."
Sgt. Bluff-Luton will play for third place on Friday at 1:30 against #14 New Hampton (28-10).
Ridge View's run in the Class 2A state softball tournament ended with a 6-0 loss to third-ranked Durant on Thursday.
The Raptors made three errors and were held to three hits by Durant pitcher Paige Compton, who struck out six and walked just one batter.
"Their pitcher kept the ball down, moved it around and kept it down low," said Ridge View head coach Scott Phelps. "We made good contact, we didn't strike out much, just hit everything right at them and didn't get a break when we needed it."
Ridge View (31-12) will face #8 AGWSR (28-8) in the third place game on Friday at 11:30 AM.
