Federal judge dismisses lawsuit after gas line cut near Hinton, IA

A federal judge has dismissed a federal lawsuit, after a gas line was cut near Hinton, Iowa last year.

Authorities say on April 25th, 2012, two employees of DeRocher Construction of rural Le Mars, Iowa were using equipment to lay drainage tile in a farm field.

That's when they ruptured a 24 inch natural gas line, sending a fireball into the air that could be seen for miles.

The owner of the pipe, Northern Natural Gas, sued DeRocher Construction and members of the DeRocher family because of it.

However, court documents show, in April of this year, a confidential settlement to resolve the matter was reached.

Because of that, a federal judge dismissed the case.
