The Sioux City Explorers' bid for their first three game winning streak in a month ended with a nightmarish third inning on Saturday. Fargo-Moorhead trailed 3-0, but score nine runs to take a 9-3 lead. The Redhawks eventually posted an 11-9 win.
Fargo (41-26) chased X's starting pitcher Preston Olson by sending 13 men to the plate in the third inning. Olson gave up eight runs while getting just one out in the third before being replaced by Jonathan Rodriguez. Ronnie Bourquin greeted Rodriguez by hitting a grand slam home run. Bourquin had started the big inning with a single, one of nine hits in the frame for Fargo.
Sioux City (26-41) scored three runs in the top of the third. Newly acquired second baseman Eddie Young had a two run single and Sam Judah also drove in a run. The X's then scored two more runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to close the gap to 9-6. Fargo scored two more in the fifth to lead 11-6 before Sioux City scored three runs in the ninth to provide the final margin.
The three game series ends with a 1:00 game on Sunday. Sioux City (26-41) returns home Monday to start a six game homestand against Gary and Lincoln.
