Stanton County Sheriff injured during pursuit

STANTON (US92) - Stanton County's Sheriff was injured in a rollover accident in his patrol car during a pursuit Monday morning.

Stanton County officials say that Sheriff Mike Unger was injured when his patrol car left a county road east of Stanton just after 2 a.m. Monday, struck an embankment and landed on its top.

Unger had to be extricated from his vehicle with the jaws of life and was taken to Faith Regional Health Services where he was treated and released for a possible neck injury.

Unger and other officers were chasing a car driven by 21-year old Andrew McKinley of Norfolk, who began eluding authorities east of Norfolk and was finally stopped near Pilger.

McKinley faces charges of reckless driving, avoiding arrest and driving while intoxicated.
