Fairs are a common occurrence during the summer, but one Siouxland Organization hosted a different kind of fair today, a science fair.

Kids at Girls Inc. in Sioux City participated in a science fair that they've been preparing for for two weeks now.

Girls ages 8 to 12 researched project ideas and learned the science behind different phenomenon that interested them.

The girls made diet coke geysers and baking soda volcanoes, they also set up poster presentations outlining the reasons for the different reactions.

"Science is more than just sitting in a classroom, it's doing fun projects and stuff," says Kaylie Gaskill.

Officials say Girls Inc. plans to continue holding a science fair every year to get girls excited about science.
