Woodbury County took another step to prepare for the expansion of CF Industries.

The county board of supervisors approved a request to upgrade the railroad crossing near 260th Street and Port Neal Road.

Right now, there is just a yield sign and railroad crossing sign at the intersection.  But $209,000 will be used to put up gates and flashing lights.

Supervisors will pay for it with a RISE grant. That means the county will pay the full amount up front, but 80 percent of it will reimbursed.

The county engineer said it will be pivotal for safety.

"We're expecting an uptick more or less quadrupling, which greatly increases the exposure," said Mark Nahra, Woodbury County engineer.

Nahra said they hope to start working on the project in September.  He said the crossing will remain open while the work is being done, and a flagger will help with any traffic concerns.
