Sioux City East opens the 4A state baseball tournament Wednesday against #10 Cedar Rapids Xavier.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -
Sioux City East opens play in Class 4A Wednesday. The unranked Black Raiders face number-10 Cedar Rapids Xavier in round one.
The seeds tell a different story than the rankings. East is the third seed out of the 8 teams while Xavier is the sixth seed. The Black Raiders have a 30-9 record, the third highest win total in the field.
This is the first trip to state in ten years for East and they want to take advantage of the opportunity.
"It's just like most baseball games, it's going to come down to pitching and defense," said East head coach Jared Ocker. "We've got to limit the number of baserunners we're going to put on base, whether through walks or errors. I think our kids are fairly relaxed. This is a game we expected to be in and now it's just time to show up and play ball."
East and Xavier play at 6 o'clock on Wednesday. If the Black Raiders win, their 4A semifinal game would be at 8:00 PM on Friday.
