Movie filmed in Beresford, SD

Beresford, South Dakota, is going Hollywood. A film crew from Los Angeles spent three weeks shooting an independent film in the area.

The movie "Wild Prairie Rose" is about a girl returning to her rural hometown, after living in a big city. During this time, the main character rediscovers the meaning of home while taking care of her mom who is ill.

This hometown experience has also touched the lives of the actors as well.

"If you come from the city area, or you live in L.A. or Toronto, this is just an oasis of peace and groundedness and connectedness. It's like God's country, you know. It's beautiful here," said Tara Samuel, Actress.

Beresford is a town of about 2,000 people. It's not only a location, but actors say it's also a character. Crew members say the community is visually beautiful and they hope the film captures the generosity of a rural environment.

"In a place like this, they understand that what we want to do is tell a story that reflects them. And they're excited for their story to be told. And they share. They share not only their resources, but they share their story, which is in our story," said Deborah LaVine, Director.

The film should be complete in about a year. The director says she wants to hold special screenings in Sioux Falls and Beresford.
