The Black Friday of back to school shopping starts

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Parents are getting a jump start on back to school
shopping, and saving money at the same time.
The annual Iowa sales tax free holiday on clothes and shoes
Shoppers from across Siouxland traveled to Target, the
Southern Hills Mall, and other stores in Sioux
The tax-free weekend, which falls on the first Friday and
Saturday every August, is the kick-off to the back to school shopping season
for many parents.
Though many end up stocking their carts with some
non-exempt items as well, a win-win for the stores and their customers.
"I think that it's kind
of a fun atmosphere. You see all the
kids kind of getting excited. I work for a school system, so I like to see the
kids getting excited about going back to school," said Michelle Moore, of Soldier,
"I did get some
items for my boys, socks,and underwear, and I got their binders, and now we're
going to head to the mall," added Kimberly Nelson of Moorhead, IA.
The tax free holiday runs through Saturday. Most apparel under $100 will be tax exempt.
