King honors Col. George "Bud" Day in speech on U.S. House floor

Posted:

Iowa congressman Steve King was one of the 1,000 people to attend the funeral for Sioux City-native, and Medal of Honor recipient, Colonel George "Bud" Day, in Florida, on Thursday.

Back in Washington, Friday, King too to the House floor, and dedicated a full 45-minutes to Day's life and legacy. That included the story of how Day stood up to the North Vietnamese after his capture in 1967. Rep. Steve King, (R) Iowa said, "Bud Day's defiance to his captors... they would point a rifle at his head and threaten to execute him. Bud Day would stand there and sing the National Anthem."
