Hard Rock Casino set to break ground on Friday


Backers of the Sioux City Hard Rock Hotel and Casino will mark a milestone this Friday when ground is broken on the multi-million dollar project.

Sioux City Entertainment plans to convert the Battery Building and the land around it into a $120 million casino and hotel that's scheduled to open in the summer of 2014.

The groundbreaking will take place Friday, August 16, at 11:00 a.m. a the corner of  3rd and Water Street.

The public is invited to attend, but because of construction in the area already parking is expected to be a challenge.

The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City is a partnership between the Missouri River Historical Development and Sioux City Entertainment, a subsidiary of Warner Gaming.

When completed, the facility is expected to employ more than 500 workers with more than 800 slot machines and table games.
