KTIV's Kristie VerMulm last day is November 27

KTIV News Four's long-time evening anchor, Kristie VerMulm, announced in August that she is leaving the station and stepping down from the anchor desk after 17 years.

Her final newscast will be Wednesday November 27, 2013.

"Deep down I know this day would eventually come," said VerMulm as she announced her decision this afternoon to KTIV staff members. "It hasn't been an easy decision, but it's the right choice for me and my family. I have a daughter who is starting her sophomore year in high school and a son who's a fifth grader. They're very active and my work schedule doesn't always allow me the opportunity to be at their events. For the last 17 years I have been blessed with the opportunity to anchor the evening newscasts at KTIV. It has truly been a privilege to serve the viewers in Siouxland who've welcomed me into their homes and an honor to be a part of Siouxland's News Channel."

"She has been an indispensable member of our team," said Bridget Breen, KTIV Station Manager. "I am very proud of the work we have created together. Our success and leadership in Siouxland has a lot to do with Kristie's dedication, expertise and professionalism. I am certain great things are ahead for Kristie in this new chapter in her life."

KTIV Regional Vice President and General Manager, Jerry Watson echoed those sentiments adding, "KTIV newscast viewership market share annually ranks among the top five of 209 NBC markets. This is something we are all very proud of. Kristie's contributions to KTIV have been nothing but outstanding, and her leadership and teamwork have helped build KTIV into the successful national news power it is today."

VerMulm is a native of Harrisburg, South Dakota and is a graduate of South Dakota State University with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and General Agriculture.

She began her career at KTIV as a reporter from 1993 to 1994. In the fall of 1996, she returned to the station to co-anchor the 6pm and 10pm newscasts.

In spring of 2000, VerMulm took over anchoring the station's 5pm newscast in addition to the 6pm and 10pm.

VerMulm has received numerous honors and awards during her career in broadcasting.

Besides being part of the regional Emmy Award-winning news team at KTIV, she also received recognition from other organizations for excellence in anchoring, reporting, spot news coverage, agricultural reporting and feature reporting.

VerMulm will leave KTIV in November, but she is not planning on leaving Sioux City.

Kristie, her husband Kevin and their two children, Sydney and Sean, will continue to call Sioux City home.
