WASHINGTON (NBC) -

Researchers introduced a newly discovered mammal species Thursday at the Smithsonian National Museum of History.

The "olinguito" is a small raccoon-sized animal that lives in the mountainous jungles of Ecuador and Colombia.

Scientists have been tracking the olinguito for the past decade.
