X's bid for two in a row comes up short

The Sioux City Explorers' bid for their first back to back wins since July 26th ended with a 7-1 loss to St. Paul on Saturday night.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the first and made it 3-0 on a two-run homer from Brian Burgamy in the third. St. Paul (43-42) added four runs in the fourth to build a 7-0 advantage.

X's starting pitcher Mike Jefferson gave up seven runs through four innings on seven hits. Newly acquired Cody Hall pitched three scoreless innings of relief for Sioux City.

Sioux City (31-55) scored their only run in the sixth inning when Peter Barrows' double brought home Luke Murton.

The three game series ends Sunday at 6:05 at Lewis and Clark Park. The X's start a six game road trip to Laredo and El Paso in Texas on Tuesday.
