NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) -

A Siouxland youth group is hoping to add some volume to the youth's voice when it comes to local politics.

The Norfolk, Nebraska Youth Leadership Council is a group made up of Norfolk High School students.

In the past few years, the group has been in charge of putting on events for young people in the area.

But council members say recently they've begun to wonder if they could be doing more.

So at their most recent meeting Sunday, the council formed sub-committees that will be focusing on issues in Norfolk that area youth have some stake in.

Group leaders say the goal is to become an authority on youth issues elected officials can utilize.

"We hope to work closer with the City Council. We hope to be able to advise the City Council on issues, especially youth issues," Arria Lakha, Youth Council President said.

The Youth Council says some of their areas of focus include possible new recreation ideas, expansion of the public library, and teen drinking.
