SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City is opening their facility to Siouxland residents in need of escape from the hot temperatures.

They've initiated "Operation Heat Relief".

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., residents are invited to the Mercy cafeteria or South Lobby to cool down when the temperature exceeds 90 degrees.

The cafeteria is located on the third floor and the South Lobby is on the first floor near Mercy's Fifth Street entrance.

Mercy will provide cool drinks to those who come to the hospital to escape the extreme heat.

UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's is also offering a refuge for anyone needing to escape from the warm temperatures.

Residents are welcome to use St. Luke's Atrium, located in the hospital's lower level, or they may stop by the hospital's cafeteria to pick up a free glass of ice water.

Physicians in Mercy's Emergency Department and Trauma Center say heat-induced illnesses can be life threatening if not managed properly.

Residents are urged to stay inside and drink plenty of liquids.
