It's the most popular time of year to become a cub scout
Back-to-school time also means the most popular time of the year to join cub scouts.
This weekend boys had the opportunity to sign up and have some fun at the same time at the 2nd Annual Cub Scout recruiting carnival at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
Boy Scouts of America officials said about 95-percent of kids join within the next few weeks.
"Anybody can be a cub scout. As long as they're in the first grade or seven-years-old, they can join cub scouts," Pack 208 Cub Master Skip Trout said.
"Scouting has created leaders throughout society and it's an opportunity for boys to learn while they're having fun in the outdoors and learning about their community and the world around them," David Harris, of the Boy Scouts of America, said.
More than 50 kids were expected to sign up for cub scouts at the carnival.
If you're interested in finding out how to sign up for the pack in your area, you can call the local Boy Scouts of America Office at (712)-255-8846.
